Ok, folks that’s everything since last Thursday. See you next week!

Blog Roundup for June 23

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

This is Dave, in the slot that Bonnie normally does the roundup. It’s my penance for missing my slot last Thursday. Seriously folks, we could stand five more volunteers in here with us doing roundups. Come join us Grand Stranders of the blogosphere.

Monday Roundup

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

I will admit that I have spent the last two weeks caught up in the excitement of my new horse and have neglected the Monday Roundups. Now we are back to our regularly scheduled programming.

The Chicken Blog just posted a review of multiple musicians and performers.

The latest post at The Opinion Blog concerns Dennis Kucinich’s impeachment efforts, and has some pretty good commentary going on.

Ms. Caesi just reviewed a movie called “The Happening”, and made me want to go see it!

At the Killer Robot Clan blog I’ve been musing about the hidden dangers of sedentary jobs. My husband complains about the strong-arm approach of social media networks.

Azareal produced her first YouTube video, a tutorial for opening bottles with a butter knife.

Chris Mowder regrets the recent Sun News layoffs and gives us a video of a snoring duckling.

MBKimmy shares Tatum’s birthday pictures. So cute!

Paul of the Screw the Man blog has presented a thoughtful post on the evolution of social media conversations.

Dave of Evil Genius Chronicles has posted a step by step guide to leaving twitter for FriendFeed. The switch is totally worth it, you should do it!

The Libertine Gazette shares a great video titled “Vote Republican. Get What You Deserve.”

This review takes us back to last Friday, June the 13th. Unfortunately my RSS reader hates me and has hidden the button for looking at later posts, so thats all for today. Dave will do another roundup later this week.

Night ya’ll.

Blog Roundup for June 6

Friday, June 6th, 2008

This is Dave. I’m shooting to do the Thursday blog roundups now that Bonnie is doing them on Mondays (although I am a day late.) Other Grand Stranders, please come step up and join us. If five more volunteers join us, we can have daily roundups without any individual doing much work.

Note that I’m trying to do the roundups in a random order every time. The old version of Wordpress would sort them randomly in the sidebar every time and I’d load the page and then do them in that order. Now I’m just swinging the mouse around and whatever I click on is the next in the list. I’m trying not to slight anyone here.

Myrtle Beach Ramblings has a list of songs that always work for him and even a bit of flash fiction.

I See 2020 has a remembrance of Bo Diddley.

At Highways and Biways there is a touching post about childhood loss and fear and kindness.

Ms. Caesi does a movie review of The Strangers and ponders the existence of aliens.

PoliTick-Tock points out the South Strand Republican Club picnic, the Beach Dems breakfast and a Thad Viers BBQ. Politics is always easier to take when they feed you.

Killer Robot Clan talks about a new horse in the family and making some diet and exercise changes.

The Outboard Brain of a Geek muses over what Twitter needs to stay a viable service.

Chris Mowder has the first walk with the new baby and is trying to hold it together with baby care.

Candyace made it to Level 40 this week. I don’t know what game, but Level 40 must be good, right?

Andre Pope is trying to be a localvore and is working with the One Sixth miniatures convention.

Azareal is making glow in the dark ice cubes.

MB Kimmy’s daughter Tatum is walking and has pictures of a baby not quite here yet.

MB Musings has the first new post since joining our blogroll and, well, muses on what has been happening that wasn’t blogging.

Brandon Advertising discusses the relationship between a business and a customer.

Monday Roundup

Monday, May 19th, 2008

My name is Bonnie, I’m from the Killer Robot Clan blog. I’ll be doing the Monday Roundups from now on. Dave is still looking for a few good men (or women) to step up and volunteer to do a weekly roundup. Tuesday through Sunday are up for grabs. Guest blogging is a great way to spread the link love, so send him a twitter or an email to get the ball rolling.

With no further ado, here are your links:

Andre Pope has been learning the Google Maps API, and created a map of his recent canoe trip down the Waccamaw to share with us.

Brandon Advertising explores the expanding market for new media based medical advice in a detailed post, finished off with some business recommendations for the health care industry.

Dave Slusher of Evil Genius Chronicles lets us know that he has successfully moved to another host, and bemoans the process. (I sympathize. Been there, done that. Ick.)

Denney Clement’s Opinion Blog is prolific, featuring two posts today about transportation costs and two more on election politics.

At the Killer Robot Clan blog I’ve been lamenting the unsuccessful incubation of goose eggs, grumbling about blog maintenance, and ranting about noisy restaurants. My husband Andrew adds to the angst with a cynical review of Microsoft’s latest advertising. Its just been one of those weeks…

Over on the I See 20/20 blog, you can see the viral video of beloved Top 40 radio star Casey Kasem losing it after his producers arrange the show so that he is reading a dedication to a child’s dead dog right after Micheal Jackson’s “Beat It” fades from the airwaves.

Myrtle Beach Kimmy just celebrated her 33thrd birthday, and got an awesome card and present from her husband.

The MB Sun Beach Blog gives an update on Bike Week news, including the 2008 Harley-Davidson “‘Hot Model” contest that will take place during the Urban Beach Fest.

PoliTick-Tock gives us a comprehensive schedule of upcoming local political events, so you have no excuse to not get involved!

Paul over at Screw The Man has been coding up a storm! He stops to take a break and contemplate his business strategy, giving us all a glimpse into the privileges and burdens of a successful freelancer.

The South Carolina Trial Law Blog comments on the way new media is allowing young job-seekers to compete on an even footing with more experienced but less tech-savvy elders.

That’s all, folks! See ya next Monday.

Blog Roundup for May 13

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

Folks, I am still desperately looking for volunteers to help with the blog roundups. Everyone likes it when they happen, which seems to be once every 4 months lately. If we get seven people to do it one day of the week, we could have daily roundups without much effort from any one person. Who is in?

Andre ponders creating an urban group garden. I think I’m down with a plot if he ever does this.

Jo, one of the new bloggers from CREATE South, thinks about a world upside down.

MB Kimmy border on cuteness overload with pictures of her baby.

Ms. Caesi posts her review of Hard Rock Park , and draws a sniffy comment from an insider.

Chris has a new project going live.

Another different Chris posts photos of a college hunting trip.

Oubipaws has adventures in getting trolled, a bunch of links and is (understandably) bummed that he missed CREATE South.

The Killer Robot Clan family has been prolific of late so it is hard to pick amongst these posts, as they are all interesting. For one, they are going to Burning Man this year.

Smelly pirate lover?

It’s highly technical, but as a programmer I was interested in Paul’s adventures in Objective C on the Mac.

Marcia posts about how Myrtle Beach really is a small town. It’s true!

MB Sun passes on a little bit of firefighter history.

That’s it for this time. I’m not kidding about the help. I need it!

Blog Roundup for December 10th

Monday, December 10th, 2007

I’m waiting for a delayed flight at MYR, so I’ll write a blog roundup until the plane boards.

—–
MBKimmy braves the current housing market to buy her dream home on the waterway.

well GUESS WHAT … she found us a fixer upper. It is on a lot 102 x 170 I am not sure how much acre wise it is … I would think over 1/4 under 1/2. (I know it is bigger than the one we are on now)
But the house is 4700+ heated and the best part …
ON THE WATER …

The Opinion Blog notes the outing of an anonymous local blogger (who was not already on the blogroll - let us know about those! Apparently there are two blogs named “Myrtle Beach Insider”, we had the other one.) Myrtle Beach Insider responds to the outing. Frankly I’m a little surprised there is blog drama happening in the Grand Strand. It’s either a great or horrible day for the Grand Strand Blogger community and I’m not sure which.

At Killer Robot Clan, Andrew questions of the logic of selling DRM free MP3s that can’t be downloaded with Linux.

PoliTick-Tock is doing a good job of covering events as various presidential candidates come to the area. If you are interesting in attending, subscribe and find out which events are open, how to participate in the debates and such.

MB Sun notes that two area high schools made the list of the nation’s best.

Andre Pope, despite being lead organizer for our upcoming conference also has time for an automotive project.

Chris Yale blogs about the SXSE event with the Two Dollar Pistols. I was at that show (and am in one of the photos!) and it was indeed a doozy.

Chris Mowder is experimenting with letting big news trickle out.

Screw the Man responds to another blogger’s lost pet by posting his own appreciation of his feline friend.

Blog Roundup

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

Housekeeping notes. That is kind of a mish-mash in time since I’ve never done one of these local roundups before. Some are from the last 24 hours, some are from weeks or months back. In future posts, I’ll only look at posts that are new since the last roundup. Grand Stranders, keep blogging so I have stuff to round up! Also, I’m doing these in the random order of the blogroll along the side when I happened to load up the page. No playing favorites in the ordering, it’s just the way the dice rolled. Here we go.

At Killer Robot Clan, the family is blogging their joys and travails moving into a new house.

Some general observations so far:

  • If we ever decide to move ourselves again, it will be because we’ve somehow blocked the memory of this move out of our minds.
  • Pianos are cumbersome.
  • The more work that you put into a place, the more you realize that you still have to do.
  • The country is beautifully quiet. I’ve forgotten what it’s like to be able to hear things from a mile away.
  • Screened in porches are essential to life.

At Screw the Man!, thoughts about work and business abound:

Of course, that doesn’t mean I will repress my entrepreneurial tendencies to explore other opportunities outside of game development! It just means I’m going to stop thinking of my current and past work as being accidental so I can plan on doing the same thing for a while to come.

The MB Sun Beach Blog notes the upcoming Super Bowl of Boat Building.

Andre Pope enjoyed the VH1’s Hip Hop Honors 2007.

Ron Paul fever hits ATTACAG and he has set up a Cafe Press store to fund it.

Myrtle Beach Insider reviews the Glens Golf Group and the Tradition Club.

At Run Fast Go Digital, beer plus running don’t mix:

So for now it remains just a pipe dream that some day I can stop drinking long enough to shed the pounds required to become a serious runner. I’ve decided my rule for now is going to be to not keep any beer in the house so that I don’t go drinking one or two a night with dinner or when I get off work. I’m hoping that as small a change as that is, maybe it will help a bit.

At A Place that Has to Be Believed to Be Seen, the blog is now wired for sound!

At I See 20/20, he struggles with a favorite band going bigger:

I’m not sure where this overwhelming feeling comes from, but I can’t deny the miserable sensation that forms in the pit of my stomach on the occasions that I come across these travesties. And to be honest, it’s not about the band, I don’t blame them for being on TV or garnering new fans, I just know I’m going to hate the new fans though. It never fails.

At Libertine Gazette, he is thinking about school and scholarship:

I was a monster in his classes, scoring well above anyone else in the exams and essays, and I attribute that to the inspiration and tuition of Dr. Richards. He was brilliant, yet he could relate to just about anyone, and he never lost his cool. He was surprising not only in his depth of knowledge, but his breadth of experience and street smart hipness as well.

The SC Trial Lawyer is thinking about iPhones and the Apple Touch:

I was really excited about the iPhone coming out. It looked like Apple spent a lot of time on the interface and worked to make it very simple to use. Anyone that has seen a demonstration of the iPhone with expanding or collapsing text by taking two fingers on the screen and pulling them apart or pushing them together can’t help but be taken by the gadget. What held me back was that the phone was locked into AT&T service and you have to sign up for two years. I really wasn’t thrilled about that prospect.

Myrtle Beach TV (no individual post links) struggles with the loss of a beloved pet.
