I volunteered to be the curator for Myrtle Beach events for an interesting project, Jon Udell’s elm city event aggregator. The idea is to gather together as many event feeds as possible for an area, in particular ones via iCal format. A lot of people have tools that create and/or use these calendar feeds but there aren’t many places where they are published. I turned up a neat one with the tide tables for Myrtle Beach.

It’s taken many months, but one of the reasons I got involved at all was to have a widget we can drop in the sidebar with upcoming events. Currently it is showing the next 30, which can be adjusted up or down if people would like it. I like having it there, it gives a good picture of the current zeitgeist in the area when you look at the site.

As always, please give feedback on what you think. Does this make the site better, worse, what? Also, please keep sending in those links to other different Grand Strand Bloggers. This party always needs more people.

One of the original few Grand Strand Bloggers, Paul Reynolds has a new business. Today is opening day for the store he co-owns, The Baker’s Dog. It is at 6703 North Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach. This is a soft launch and there will be a formal grand opening later but for now you can go and buy the pet in your life some tasty holiday treats. The store also has a blog that you can read to follow along with their adventures. Congratulations!

I’m here at Converge South in Greensboro NC and just attended a session on hyper-local blogging. It both made me happy and sad about the whole idea – happy about the potential in sites such as this and sad at the neglect it has received over the summer. I’d like to declare the month of November as a “grand reopening.” We have an exciting thing here, so I’ll do my best to fan these coals back into a flame. Don’t forget, any local blogger can get an account on here and post. Help me out, friends!
